NASA's Ingenuity Mars Helicopter has completed 60 flights since first taking to the skies above the Red Planet on 19 April 2021, far exceeding its originally planned technology demonstration of up to five flights.
The helicopter team now searches the limits of their small Martian drone: just a week after setting a new altitude record on Mars, Ingenuity helicopter has just flown faster than ever before, reaching a speed of 28.8 km/h during its 60th flight. Its previous record was 24.1 km/h (6.5 m/s).
Ingenuity covered 340 meters in 133 seconds at a maximum altitude of 16 meters during this flight that took place on 26 September.
