SpaceX launched on Sunday 56 new Starlink internet satellites atop a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral. This was SpaceX’s 32nd launch of the year and its 201st consecutive successful mission. This is a record unmatched by any other current or previous launch vehicle.
After this launch, SpaceX has lifted 4 447 Starlink satellites into orbit and right now SpaceX has more than 4 000 functioning Starlink satellites in space. More than 3 400 of those are operational and nearly 500 are being guided into their final orbits.
Starlink is a space-borne broadband network, which provides high-speed, low-latency connectivity to customers around the world. SpaceX says each Starlink launch adds more than a terabit per second of capacity to the constellation. Usually, downlink speed is much better than uplink speed.
